A Complete Guide for Photographing Wildflowers
May 4th 2013, 13:55

If you’re a photographer like me, learning how to take a great image doesn’t necessarily come naturally. It takes a lot of time and work for my photography skill to progress. I’m also a photographer who prefers workshops and reading material that provide camera settings, techniques, and other straight-forward material to work with.

wildflower photographyA recent resource I just picked up and read was Steve Berardi’s Wildflower Photography ebook. Since I’m into nature photography, and the read was inexpensive, it was an easy decision to add this to my growing photography reading collection. If you’re not into paying for reading material, Steve has a great blog as well which provides a wealth of information for both beginners and advanced photographers.

Here are many of the things you’ll learn in this 65 page ebook:

  • What equipment you need for photographing wildflowers
  • How to set up your shot to create pleasing compositions
  • How to choose the right aperture to ensure your flowers are in focus and tack sharp
  • How to find the perfect exposure by using tools like the RGB histogram
  • How to maximize sharpness by carefully positioning your camera
  • How different lighting conditions affect the look of flowers
  • How to create powerful compositions by using color theory
  • How to get more depth of field by using focus stacking
  • How to post-process your photos with Adobe Photoshop to reduce noise, increase contrast and saturation, make small adjustments to exposure, and make your images super sharp (tutorials apply to both Photoshop CS 4+ and Photoshop Elements 8+)
  • Learn by example with 12 example photos. Each example includes the camera settings that were used, as well as a complete story of how the image was made and post-processed in Photoshop.

Here are a few of the example images that you’ll learn about.
