As we mentioned on Twitter yesterday, the Macphun guys were getting ready to make one of their iOS apps free with a new update. And since today (April 18, 2013) is that big date that the FX Photo Studio app is free (usually $1.99), we decided to take a look at it and learn a little more about it.
When you start FX Photo Studio, you’ll be surprised to see your reflection right inside the camera flower.
Interface is easy and intuitive; you may take a photo, upload it, or import from Facebook or documents.
All the fun starts after uploading your first photo. You’ll appreciate the fact that the iOS version contains even more photo effects (194) than FX Photo Studio for Mac. One has more options to explore their creativity. Here is the Griffin effect giving an old photo a new look:
You can’t sort the effects your way (there are groups for better navigation, though), but you can block unwanted or star favorite. Nothing new if you are FX Photo Studio for Mac user.
Random effects are also available – check a die in the right upper corner.
Researching more about the app on the web, I discovered a nice trick Macphun guys mentioned: turn your photo black & white with Grayscale and apply another effect above. In the end you get cool pictures like this one:
(Grayscale and Lemoore effects)
There are additional effect packs that you can purchase within the app but one can be happy with the collections available from the start.
Plus, with FX Photo Studio you get ColorSplash tool:
And their so-called Masking studio to apply effects to any part of the picture you want.
It’s possible to change the overlay intensity while creating a mask (Rainbow Palette 2 effect in work):
How to make a photo more inspiring in the end? Simply add a word with one of FX Photo Studio text labels:
FX Photo Studio for iPhone is only $1.99, but you can get it for FREE today (April 18, 2013). Don’t hesitate and go get the app before it’s too late.
